Just a friendly reminder that the Labor Day weekend will be here before long.

Many people will be traveling during Labor Day Weekend, the last long holiday weekend of the summer. Make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. If you are not paying attention, things could go very wrong, very fast on the highways. Make sure your seat belts are buckled and your kids are properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint.

Many people go out on Labor Day to have fun on the water. The Missouri Highway Patrol says watercraft operators should ensure everyone in the boat is wearing an approved life jacket. It is the law.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during Labor Day Weekend. Every available officer will be on the road enforcing traffic laws and assisting motorists.

Troop B (that's our area) officers will be conducting a 20-Mile Trooper project on U.S. Highways 36, 61, and 63 on August 29 and September 1. During this enforcement program, troopers will be assigned to 20-mile intervals in an effort to step up traffic enforcement with a goal of reducing traffic crashes over the holiday weekend.

"The Labor Day weekend is the last long holiday weekend of the summer and many people will be traveling on Missouri roadways,” stated James E. Wilt, commanding officer of Troop B. “I would like to urge all motorists to make sure safe driving is a part of your plans. Make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, and never drink and drive."
