Hi, friends! Can you tell us where the Dora the Explorer movie is hiding? Did you say, “In Michael Bay’s bank account”? Very good! …But also: What?! Michael Bay, purveyor of glistening biceps, incomprehensible robo-action and explosives, is producing a a live-action (emphasis on ACTION, am I right) movie based on the popular animated series. You know, for kids.

THR reports that Bay — along with Platinum Dunes producing partners Andrew Form and Brad Fuller — has come aboard the Dora the Explorer project, which has been in the works at Paramount since 2015. Tom Wheeler (Puss in Boots) was initially brought in to develop the script for the film, but with Bay’s backing, it looks like the project is taking a different direction.

Nick Stoller has been tapped to develop a new screenplay for the big-screen adaptation of Dora the Explorer. Stoller is best known as the writer-director of The Muppets and the director of Neighbors and its sequel, Sorority Rising (which he also co-wrote). More recently, he wrote and directed episodes of the Netflix series Friends From College.

Dora the Explorer aired on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2014; like Blue’s Clues, the series was interactive, encouraging kids to play along with the eponymous protagonist and her monkey, Boots, as they solved educational mysteries — like why the heck Michael Bay, of all people, is producing a Dora the Explorer movie.
