Quincy Community Theatre's summer musical will be taking the stage in July. Tickets for Mary Poppins will be available beginning on June 22.

The production consists of a cast of approximately 40 local performers. Quincy Community Theatre's Artists Director, Brandon Thomsen, says that Mary Poppins is "going to be the biggest show we’ve ever done. Bigger than Les Misérables [last summer's musical]. There are magical special effects, huge dance numbers and flying."

Of course Mary Poppins is based on P.L. Travers' books, and the beloved 1964 Walt Disney movie.

When naughty Jane and Michael Banks drive out yet another nanny, their concerned parents and housekeepers wonder if they will ever find someone to care for the children. Enter the mysterious Mary Poppins, strong-willed and “practically perfect in every way.” As Mary tries to reform the Banks children with a series of whimsical lessons, George and Winifred Banks struggle to keep their family together. With the help of friends like the charming Bert, the zany Mrs. Corry, and even a lively park statue, the Banks family learns the value of life, the world, and each other." - Quincy Community Theatre

“It’s really the family’s journey we end up following,” said Thomsen. “It’s a story about a boy who wants to fly a kite with his dad, and that becomes the running theme of the show. We know they’re a family again because they’re going to go ‘fly a kite’—together.”

Mary Poppins tickets are $22. They go on sale June 22. You can visit 1qct.org for online tickets, call the QCT box office at 217-222-3209, or stop by the box office in the Oakley-Lindsay Center. Mary Poppins will be on stage July 16-19, and July 23-26.
