I am so glad the Quincy Community Theater is bringing in Mary Poppins to their stage.

Like many people my age, Mary Poppins was one of my favorite movies. I saw it back when the Washington Theater was open in Quincy. It just seemed so magical and it made me think that I could fly. Of course I could not do that. But now with new state of the art technology, Mary Poppins comes alive again!

Nearly 100 people from around the Tri-States tried out over two days of open auditions. The local cast includes 40 actors and actresses from all over the Tri-State area. This is truly going to be one of Quincy Community Theater's outstanding productions. You need to see this Mary Poppinslive July 16-19 and July 23-26.

“It’s really the family’s journey we end up following,” said Quincy Community Theatre Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen. “It’s a story about a boy who wants to fly a kite with his dad, and that becomes the running theme of the show. We know they’re a family again because they’re going to go ‘fly a kite’—together.”

Mary Poppins is directed by Thomsen, with vocal direction by Elizabeth Mannhardt, music direction by Gayle Tenhouse, choreography by Cheryl Kaiser, scenic/lighting design by Technical Director Paul Denckla, sound design by Nathan Holthaus, costume coordination by Connie Phillips, and properties by Donna Rupert. Donna Haire serves as the stage manager and Jason Keller serves as the backstage manager.

Tickets are $22. They are on sale now. For tickets, to volunteer backstage, or to serve as an usher, visit 1qct.org or call the QCT Box Office, located in the Oakley-Lindsay Center, at (217) 222-3209.

Mary Poppins runs July 16-10 & 23-26 and Sunday matinees. This is gonna be good.
