Within the next few years, MoDOT will replace two historic bridges in Pike County, MO.

The bridges are considered historic and eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. Federal law requires any state proposing demolition of a historic bridge to first make it available for donation to a state, locality or responsible private entity. Karen Daniels, senior historic preservation, says the cost to remove the bridges or parts of each bridge is borne by the organization that gets the bridge. So there you have it. You could have a historic bridge or parts of a historic bridge in your own back yard. And it is free.
