Little Green Army Men, Bubbles and Rubik’s Cube Inducted into Toy Hall of Fame
We've all heard of the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, but did you know that there is a National Toy Hall of Fame? It's part of The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. There are currently 56 members of the Hall of Fame, the most recent inductees being Little Green Army Men, Bubbles and the Rubik's Cube.
Among the other toys in the Hall of Fame:
- Play-Doh (Inducted in 1998)
- Easy-Bake Oven (inducted in 2006)
- Mr. Potato Head (inducted in 2000)
- Nintendo Game Boy (inducted in 2009)
If you look at the entire list, there's a good chance you had one of just about every Hall of Fame Toy. Personally, I loved my Star Wars toys, Candy Land was the first board game I remember playing, and I still haven't solved the Rubik's Cube.
According to the Associated Press, other toys considered for induction in 2014 were: American Girl dolls, Fisher-Price Little People, Hess toy trucks, My Little Pony, the skill game Operation, paper airplanes, pots and pans, Slip 'N Slide and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
The National Toy Hall of Fame allows anyone to make a nomination, and finalists are chosen on the advice of historians, educators, and other individuals who exemplify learning, creativity, and discovery through their lives and careers.
