Well you can take it to the bank that sometime in the month of January we will experience "The Thaw".The January Thaw that is. It looks like this is the week for it this year. Temperatures in the 40's and 50's today followed by 60 possibly on Friday will surely melt all the snow and ice we have right now.

That is a good thing plus it will help melt the snow to the north of us making the Mississippi River basin deeper too. That's the good part.  The bad part is the return to winter perhaps as early as Saturday night with much colder temperatures.

The other good part about January is that the days are lighter longer and it is actually still light out after 5pm. Going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark is no fun especially when you are in an office with no windows.  I might as well be living in Alaska with 6 months of darkness.  But that is behind us and Spring is a few weeks away.  I can't wait.

You can go by your calendar, but my calendar has winter being November, December, January and February with March 1st as the first day of the Spring for the Big Dog.  By the way, in case you didn't know it, Spring arrives officially on March 20th.
