On Tuesday, Kelly Clarkson revealed she was "so over" planning her upcoming wedding. And it looks like she wasn't kidding -- because she and fiance Brandon Blackstock have now decided to elope.

"We are so busy that we finally just came to terms the other night and were like, 'So, we change our minds and we want to elope,'" she told PEOPLE. "We just got so overwhelmed by it -- all the decisions."

Clarkson explained that after save-the-dates were sent for the October nuptials, "the details were leaking" and things got "crazy." She went on to say that with the professional projects she and Brandon are working on plus his children's schedules, pulling the plug on a big wedding just made sense.

The couple made the decision, and then "sent out an engagement photo to everyone and said, 'Thank you so much for understanding, but it's just going to be me and Brandon and his two kids and the minister.'" (In what was perhaps a bit of foreshadowing, the singer tweeted out the engagement photo above last night.)

"Our whole life is a celebration. That's what we kept laughing about. We don't need another day where we throw a big party. Our lives are so in the spotlight all the time," the Grammy winner went on. "Everything is such a spectacle, we were like, 'We would rather have an intimate moment that's special.'"

There will be a soiree later -- but it'll celebrate their new home, not their marriage.

"Our friend is throwing us [a party] because we're about to wrap up construction at our house," Clarkson said. "He's throwing us a huge 'stock the bar' party, so all of the people who were going to be at our wedding will be there."

Kelly's known for being low-maintenance and adorably fuss-free, so this whole thing doesn't surprise us much. We just hope her newly-chosen maid of honor isn't too bummed out about it.
