Katy Perry‘s autobiographical video for ‘Wide Awake’ leaked yesterday (June 18), featuring the singer shifting from light to dark, young to older, all the while navigating the maze of her crazy life over the past year, which includes her split from hubby Russell Brand. In a chat with MTV’s Sway at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, Perry summed up the song and the video effectively: “I have spoken my piece. I have gone on a long ride.”

She wasn’t kidding in the lyrics, when she declares, “The story’s over now / The end.” Divorce, maybe?

When asked how she wanted fans to feel when they heard the song, KP said, “This song in particular is like a dose of reality, coming down from a high, having been on cloud nine for so long. But it can’t always be so sweet. You have to pick yourself up and move forward and face the facts of life.” Yeah, that sounds like divorce!

The singer opened up about the video and it’s autobiographical nature, too, saying, “It’s like the labyrinth of my life. I wanted to tell the story of myself going through this journey, trying to get out of the maze. The whole time, there is the younger version of me, leading me through.” She spoke of obstacles she had to overcome this past year — that sounds like, yep, you guessed it, her divorce — and she said what kept her going was the purity of her belief in music.

She also reveals she wrote the song since it was the perfect “last word” for her, as it was penned for ‘Katy Perry: Part of Me,’ her debut film, and was not a ‘Teenage Dream’ leftover. Again, that “D” word comes to mind.
