An iconic Quincy bar, which shut its doors last month, is currently featured on NBCnews.com.

The enlightening post, written by WGEM’s Brian Troutman, spotlights Irene’s Cabaret and the years of influence the bar has had on Quincy’s LGBTQ community since opening in 1980.

In the piece, owner Rob Clow shares the reason behind his decision to close the nightclub as well as stories of his longtime partner and “Irene’s” founder, Willard Kaufman (better known as “Irene West”). According to Clow, Kaufman, who passed away in 2015, experienced it all during his years at the helm.

After 36 years, Irene’s closed on November 5.
