I’m Serving Notice..This Rock is Mine!
If anyone knows me they know I love the blues. They also know that I am a fixture at the Blues in the District concerts and sit next to what is now known as the “Big Dog’s Rock” in Washington Park. For blues lovers out there the annual Blues in the District starts tonight at 5:30pm.
The Historic Quincy Business District, the organizers for the event has another great summer lineup this year. The opening act tonight will be a Kansas City Blues Band called “Trampled Under Foot”. On June 28th the “Soulard Blues Band” from St. Louis will return to entertain the crowd. The Rockin’ Johnny Band from Chicago visits Washington Park on July 12th followed by a July 26th appearance by Chicago’s Studebaker John who is no stranger to playing in Quincy.
Rockin’ Jake, a blues harmonica player, plays on August 9th with the Windy City’s Kilborn Alley playing August 23rd. The final Blues in the District event will be a performance by female blues artist CeCe Teneal.
The concerts remain free thanks to grants and funding from the general public. Food is available for purchase but you are welcomed to bring your own as well as your own beverages. All concerts this summer are at Washington Park and are from 5:30 to 9:30pm. And remember, “The Rock” is off limits! See you tonight.
