Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling and the City of Quincy are hosting the 2013 Illinois AAU Tumbling and Trampoline State Championships tomorrow at the Oakley Lindsay Center in  Quincy. More than 325 athletes, including 30 from Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling, representing 25 gyms are registered to compete. Competition will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and continue until 5 pm 2013 is the second time for Quincy to host this event, after having won the hosting for the 2012 event. The 2012 event featured more than 700 events; Saturday’s event will feature more than 700 events as well.  This meet is the qualifier for Junior Olympics and qualifiers will advance to that national competition to be held on July 24th through the 27th in Detroit, Michigan. Saturday’s championships will feature competitions in tumbling, trampoline and double mini (trampoline).

To secure the hosting rights to this meet, tumbling team head coach and Gem City Gymnastics and Tumbling co-owner Zeke Cernea made a presentation for Quincy to host the event to all gym owners, coaches and board members from the state of Illinois and won the hosting rights by vote of those individuals.  Cernea also thanked both Rob Ebbing of the Oakley Lindsay Center and Holly Cain of the Quincy Convention and Visitors Bureau for their assistance.

Admission prices for the 2013 Illinois AAU Tumbling and Trampoline State Championships are: Adults $6; Students and Senior Citizens $4; Children under age 2 and Active Military admitted free. More than a dozen local vendors will have booths set up during the event.
