That was the cry back in the 1980s. MTV(Music Television) was born on May 5, 1980.

But when MTV first came on the air, it was a TV with not many watchers. They played music videos all day and all night. It was just there. No VJs, no guests, just music videos. The people in New York watched it because New York was the only place to get it.

But the suits said "we need something to really kick it in high gear". So they revamped everything. Hired young hip people to be VJs (video disc jockeys) who played videos all day and all night, non stop.

And on August 1st, 1981, music television was transformed forever. "I WANT MY MTV" was the battle cry. It was huge. Everybody was watching MTV. Even big rock stars of the day rocked the studio with new music. Madonna, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard all were played on MTV 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

MTV is not as big as it was back in the 80s. Now they have real people shows on which are almost soap opera like. But, MTV is still on the air some 33 years later. MTV showed everybody that the kid's just wanna rock. And rock they did.
