So I put on the TV last night to watch the Discover Orange Bowl in Florida on ESPN. It was Northern Illinois taking on Florida State. Normally I wouldn't have that much of an interest in watching the game except for the fact that Mathew Sims from Hannibal was playing in the game for the Huskies of Northern Illinois.

Sims, the junior place kicker for NIU and former standout at Hannibal High School has put up some great numbers this season again. He had 114 points during the regular season and tacked on 4 more to end up leading the team in scoring (118 points) with a 26 yard field goal and an extra point in a 31 to 10 loss to Florida State. For the year Mathew Sims was 15 for 19 in field goals and 67 for 68 in point after attempts for a high powered Huskie offense. The loss ended Northern's 12 game winning streak and ended the Huskies season at 12 and 2.

Matt, the son of Bob and Lynne Sims, was the 2011 MAC All Conference kicker and won the All-conference Specialist of the Week honors for the second time this season after getting 17 points in a game against Akron which included field goals of 49 and 54 yards. The 54 yarder broke the school record by two yards.

Congratulations Mathew on a great season and much success next year for your senior season for the Huskies. It was fun watching the game last night even though it was a loss for Northern Illinois.
