Hannibal Police officers assigned to the Patrol Operations Division are being encouraged this Summer and Fall to make an extra effort to interact with the community youth while conducting normal patrol duties.

Interaction with the youth may range from throwing a football back in forth, playing a quick a quick game of "horse" with a basketball or a variety of other similar activities.  In addition, The Hannibal Police Department, Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department and the Hannibal Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #20 joined together to provide fifty (50) "free" one-time Community Pool admission and a $5.00 coupon for concessions.

"When time allows, HPD officers assigned to patrol actives are being encouraged to interact with youth in the community. The officers will still be responsible for answering calls however, we want them to take the time to increase positive interactions with the youth they encounter when it is practical to do so," stated Chief Lyndell Davis.

"Officers will also have the Community Pool and Concession coupons to hand out to 50 of the youth they are able to contact. This is a grass roots type program, but even though it might appear a small scale endeavor, our goal is to provide some level of an alternative exposure of  law enforcement personnel to our community youth in contrast to the image so often perpetuated in the national media."
