On Sunday afternoon, officers of the Hannibal Police Department were called to the 400 block of Olive St for a report of a man threatening people with a knife.

A female resident of that neighborhood reported she had been outside playing with her 18-month-old nephew, when 35-year-old David J. Jones, of Hannibal, walked by and started yelling at her. Jones, who had been carrying a 12 pack of beer, then pulled a knife and threatened her. Jones eventually put the knife away, threw a can of beer at the victim and walked from the area.

Officers located Jones at the corner of Grand Ave and Center St. Upon contacting Jones, he became upset and yelled at officers to shoot him. When officers drew their department issued TASERS Jones became compliant and was taken into custody.

While being transported and during the booking process, Jones again became upset and uncooperative, by spitting at officers and kicking department property.

Jones was booked on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Assault Second Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest and Property Damage.

Jones was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail.
