The popular play 'Steel Magnolias' is coming to Hannibal. Performances are scheduled Thursday, November 14 through Saturday, November 16 at 7 p.m. in the Parker Theatre of the Roland Fine Arts Center, on the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange University.

All the ladies who are "anybody" in Chinquapin, Louisiana go to Truvy's beauty salon. There, the vivacious Truvy, assisted by the slightly odd Annelle, dispenses wisdom and style to her unique clientele: the curmudgeonly Ouiser, Miss Clairee, the local social leader M'Lynn, and her spunky daughter Shelby. As these funny, frank companions share in the joys and changes of life, they form a bond; which becomes even deeper when the group must face an unexpected tragedy. This funny and heartwarming play of simple strength and friendship will remain with you long after the curtain has closed." - www.hlg.edu

Tickets to 'Steel Magnolias' are on sale in advance for $9. They are $10 at the door. For seniors 60 and older the price is $8 in advance, $9 at the door. For reservations, call 573-629-3182.

'Steel Magnolias' was written for the stage in 1987. The original stage production only featured six female characters, and all of the action took place on one set: Truvy's Beauty Salon. The story was adapted into a film starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine and Tom Skerritt in 1989. A remake of 'Steel Magolias' featuring an all-African American cast, and starring Queen Latifah and Phylicia Rashad, debuted on the Lifetime television network last year.

The play was last produced in our area three years ago, when Quincy Community Theatre included 'Steel Magnolias' as part of its 2010 season.
