Hannibal Jaycees Donate $500 to Access Day

Access Day at the Missouri State Fair has been hosted by the Missouri Jaycees for the past 43 years. Access Day offers an opportunity for those with physical or developmental disabilities to get out of their group homes or institutional settings for a day to enjoy an event that they otherwise might not be able to experience. The Hannibal Jaycees have made a $500 donation to Access Day.

The Hannibal Jaycees recently made a $500 donation the Missouri’s State Fair’s “Access Day” for guests with disabilities. Access Day, hosted by the Missouri Jaycees, provides an opportunity for adults and children with physical or developmental disabilities to enjoy a special day at the fair.

Access Day has been hosted by the Missouri Jaycees for the past 43 years and is traditionally held on the last Friday of the fair each year.  Disabled individuals living in group homes and institutions are invited to attend with their caregivers.  They receive free admission, free parking and a free carnival game ticket, plus a hot sack lunch.  Guests can also purchase discounted carnival ride wristbands.

Access Day offers participants an opportunity to get out of their group homes or institutional settings for a day to enjoy an event that they otherwise might not be able to experience.  The program costs a total of $8,000 - $10,000 annually, depending on the number of individuals who participate. The Missouri Jaycees rely on chapters across the state to run special projects with the sole purpose of raising money for Access Day.

"We are pleased to contribute to such a worthy cause as Access Day,” said Kami Harsell, Hannibal Jaycees President.  “I feel that Access Day is another example of how the Jaycees volunteer many hours to fundraising in the community just to be able to give that money back to causes we are passionate about.  We would like to thank Midwest Music Mayhem, Golden Eagle Distributing and Heartland Towing for their part in making this event a success again so we were able to make this donation."
