Hannibal Continues to Clean Up Following Storm, Flooding [Photo Gallery]

The City of Hannibal continues to clean up streets and properties, more than two weeks after a devastating storm downed trees, damaged buildings and knocked out power to thousands of residents. Flooding in the city has further complicated recovery efforts, as high waters led to the closing of the Flood Buyout Area on South Side, where many storm victims had brought limbs for disposal. A portion of that area has re-opened, though some of it remains underwater. 

To access the Flood Buyout Area,  cross the 3rd Street overpass and turn left on either Washington or Adams Street. Officials remind residents please do NOT unload on Sycamore Street, and stay away from flood waters.

Flood walls are in along the Hannibal Riverfront for the second time since April. The Mark Twain Riverboat is operating, though it is docked at its high water landing at 554 Bridge Street.

On Friday, June 7, Douglas Community Services in Hannibal will be having a community assessment to help those that need assistance recovering from the storm. Those seeking help are asked to bring identification to the assessment at the Douglas Community Services office on Grand Avenue between 1 and 3 p.m.
