As part of their annual "April Showers" initiative, Girl Scouts, community members and area organizations are coming together to help people in need.

Now it it's 19th year, April Showers is the Girl Scouts' largest council-wide event in Eastern Missouri. Beginning April 8, members of local Girl Scout groups will be going door to door distributing recyclable plastic bags. Residents are asked to fill the bags with personal care items like toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, bandages, diapers, etc. and place them out for pick up on April 16.

Since its inception in 1998, the April Showers program has brought in more than 17 million items. The organization works in collaboration with Operation Food Search and other non profits to distribute the items.
