Since 1998 more than 12 million personal care items have been collected during the Girl Scouts' April Showers event.

People who use public assistance to buy food cannot use that assistance to buy personal care items like deodorant, diapers, feminine hygiene products, mouthwash, shampoo, toilet paper and toothpaste. To help those in need receive these types of items, Girls Scouts will distribute white, recycled plastic bags door to door throughout the Girls Scouts of Eastern Missouri's jurisdiction April 4, 5 and 6. Scouts will return the following weekend to collect bags filled with donations.

The 2013 April Showers program statistics looked like this in the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri's area: 15,379 girls participated, 12,000 adult volunteers participated and 70,253 hours were donated to the program, and over 1.1 million items were collected last year!
