The Hannibal Cavemen and Quincy Gems hooked up in an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Friday night, and it was the Gems that held on for a 1-0 win at QU Stadium.

The Gems pushed across the only run of the game in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Carson Weber.

Quincy starting pitcher Kade Granier went the distance, giving up only three hits and walking two while striking out eight.

For the Cavemen, starter Elliott Stepanof gave up just that one run in six innings. The Hannibal bullpen was near perfect, with Brennan Hehner and Zak Wallner throwing a scoreless inning apiece.

The loss drops the Cavemen to 1-5 in the second half and 8-23 overall. Hannibal travels to Springfield to take on the Sliders Saturday and Sunday nights.
