Back on July 17 I had the honor of being invited to attend St. Louis Cardinal Broadcaster Mike Shannon's 75th birthday party. The event was held at Shannon's Restaurant in downtown St. Louis. Upon arrival, there was a huge birthday card for all to sign next to the steps leading up to the restaurant. On the other side was a Budweiser Clydesdale. For a fleeting moment I actually felt "small."

Inside were all kinds of wonderful people who stopped by to wish Mike well. The list included Red Schoendienst, Whitey Herzog and Al Hrabosky. Midway through the evening Missouri Governor Jay Nixon appeared and presented a gift to Mike. How cool was that?

People kept coming in throughout the evening to wish Mike a happy birthday and that included the Fox Sports Midwest TV Girls. (Kayla, Katie and Teryn, left to right in picture). They were posing for pictures so I decided to plant myself right in that line. I figured that the worst that could happen would be to make those girls look even better than they already looked. I succeeded in doing just that.

You see them all the time on the Cardinals TV broadcast. All three all extremely intelligent and talented. My conversation lasted a few minutes with them and ended surprisingly when they asked me where I was from. When I said, "Quincy," Katie responded that she was from Quincy and now lives in St. Louis. Oh what a small world we live in!
