The Stars and Stripes, the official National symbol of the United States of America was authorized by congress on June 14, 1777. On May 30, 1916 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 Flag Day, a day of national celebration. This year, the Palmyra Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Flag Day in Palmyra!

Palmyra is one of the few towns that observes Flag Day. The celebration, always held on a Saturday, will be June 15, 2013, and will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. The parade begins at the Palmyra High School parking lot & goes down Main Strett past the court house. Floats, marching units, vintage cars and trucks, local clubs and organizations, local royalty from pageants, and more will be marching with veterans in the parade. All local veterans are welcome to participate.

Following the parade there will be a Flag Raising Ceremony on the courthouse lawn by the VFW. Food booths will be set up by the Palmyra Jaycees on the side of the courthouse, and there will be a tractor exhibit by the Northriver Old Iron Club.

KICK-FM will provide music for the event. along with the local church singing at the flag dedicaiton ceremony
