Way back in the seventies through the nineties, softball ruled. Everybody in Quincy was on a team.

I moved to Quincy in the early eighties and played on two softball teams. These teams were mainly in Quincy, but we did do a lot of traveling around Missouri and Illinois. We had some fun times. Stayed up late, played a bunch of games, and did it all over again the next day. There are still softball teams around, but not like what it used to be.

Now there is a movement to get more teams to play in the area. That is why the First Ever Softball Teams Reunion will kick off Friday, May 29 at the K of C Grounds, 700 South 36th Street in Quincy. All softball teams, players, fans, sponsors, families and friends are invited.

Yes, you may be a little slower and you may not be able to turn that double play as quickly as you used to, but this is all for the fun of it. Food and drink will be available. And the band Eleven will play from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

For more information and game times, call Ron Mast at 217-653-4909.
