I listened to a radio report the other morning which mentioned that Delta Air Lines will soon require owners of service and support animals to provide more information before their animal can fly in the passenger cabin.

Starting March 1, Delta will require owners to show proof of their animal’s health or vaccinations at least 48 hours before a flight.

In other words, owners of Service Dogs, who go through extensive training to be certified before the owner gets the animal, will need to sign a statement saying that their animal is well behaved. This comes after the airline said animal complaints have nearly doubled since 2016. Not all of these animals in question were actually Service Dogs.

Service Dogs are not charged the Delta Air Lines $125 fee each way for pets that are in the cabin. Here in lies the problem. People are disguising their “pets” as “Service Dogs” trying to avoid the fee. Frankly, I find that despicable.

People with legitimate Service Dogs have them because they suffer from a disease or they are dealing with the trauma of being in war. For people to “disrespect” the legitimate Service Dog owners by posing as one of them should be prosecuted. Those people are now forcing the legitimate Service Dog owners to take extra steps to allow their dog to board a Delta plane.

Now veterans, suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome (PDST), often say that they wouldn’t be able to travel without their companion. Beginning March 1st they will now have to take extra steps to make that happen thanks to these disrespectful “pet” owning flyers. P.D.S.T. sufferers have gone through enough and shouldn’t have to be asked to do more to simply buy an airline ticket.

To the legitimate Service Dog owners…God bless and comfort you. To the illegitimate “fake” Service Dog owners, it gets real hot where you're going and your dog won’t like it either.
