It is one of those wonderful inventions that everyone has needed sometime in their lifetime and I am one of those people. I'm talking about the safety pin. I used several for my St. Patrick's Parade outfit. Last Tuesday was National Safety Pin Day in honor of the patent being presented to Walter Hunt back in 1849. Little did he know his invention would be a necessity as it still is today. Hunt didn't make much money for his work as he sold the rights away for only $400. Sarah Deien and I were discussing this transaction during Tuesday's Y101 Radio Morning Show.

So, if you purchased an invention like a safety pin for a minimum price and made millions from it later knowing you got it for a steal, would you give the inventor (or his family) a significant check as a gift later?  You already know Sarah's and my answer.  So what is yours?
