Additional Information

The James O’Donnell Funeral Home invites the public to join us for a Memorial Lantern Float on the Mississippi River on Saturday, May 26th. The ceremony remembers those we love and allows for reflection on the memories of loved ones and dedicates prayers for a peaceful and harmonious future. Just as the waters of the Mississippi merge with the Gulf of Mexico and eventually with each ocean, the wish for peace and happiness extends from the banks of the Mississippi across the globe.

We invite everyone to take part in this meaningful event. The Memorial Lantern Float is free and open to all regardless of nationality, race, faith, or lifestyle. Each individual who takes part in the event will bring their own unique life journey, memories, and hopes with them. Each personal experience adds to the healing and transformative power of the event.

Please join us at Nipper Park on the Hannibal riverfront for the ceremony. Anyone interested is asked to meet between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. to decorate their lanterns. A brief ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. as the lanterns are released into the Mississippi.

Lanterns may be personalized with names or notes remembering someone special. This event is free and open to the public, however a limited number of lanterns are available so please call the James O’Donnell Funeral Home at 573.221.8188 to get more information or to reserve your lantern. There is limited seating available so those wishing to watch the event are asked to bring a lawn chair.
