Marion County Prosecutor David Clayton says two counts of Assault in the First Degree have been filed against Dustin T. Dye.

The charges are in connection with serious injuries suffered by a 7 week old baby in Hannibal. The arrest comes after officers were called Tuesday to Hannibal Regional Hospital to investigate a report of possible child abuse.  Due to the severity of the infants’ injuries, the baby was transferred to a hospital in the St. Louis area.

Hannibal Police apprehended the suspect Saturday night after what was termed an elaborate attempt to evade arrest.

The charge of Assault in the First Degree carries a range of punishment of up to life in prison.  If convicted, Dye faces up to two consecutive life sentences.
