If case you haven't had your fill of county and state fairs, there is still one more left in Illinois. The Du Quoin State Fair in Du Quoin, Illinois is underway through Monday, September 5.Admission is $2 for adults, 13 and older, and free for kids 12 and under but there is a fee to park your car ranging from $7 to $12 depending on the lot you choose to park in.

The Du Quoin State Fair also has some top-notch entertainers. Sara Evans and Skillet performed this past weekend and Kellie Pickler performs tonight. Herman's Hermits with Peter Noone will take the stage Wednesday followed by Aaron Lewis on Thursday. Jamey Johnson performs on Friday and the Summerland Tour featuring Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit and Sponge takes the stage on Monday night. Saturday and Sunday night will feature stock car racing at the fair.

If you were like me you may have wondered why there are two State Fairs in Illinois? It all began back in 1986 when then Governor James Thompson purchased the financially struggling fairgrounds in Du Quoin. He did so and proclaimed that there be a second State Fair in an attempt to provide a shot in the arm for the economically depressed southern portion of the State of Illinois.
