If you are heading to Chicago this weekend be prepared to hear loud noises as the Air Force Thunderbirds will be buzzing the Windy City as part of the 60th Annual Chicago Air & Water Show on Saturday & Sunday.

Thousands will be watching on the Lakefront where the show will be held. I have seen this show from the Navy Pier which is one of the better spots to watch it.

I have also seen the airshow while watching a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Can you imagine trying to hit a fastball at 100 plus miles per hour when a Thunderbird buzzes the ballpark just as the pitcher releases the ball? I wouldn’t want to be in that batter’s box.

No problems this weekend though as the Cubs are in Pittsburgh unless a renegade Thunderbird heads to Pittsburgh just for fun. At 500 mph, it would probably take 45 minutes or so to get there. How crazy is that?

This weekend’s show is the closest show to Quincy that the Thunderbirds will perform this year. Believe it or not, the Thunderbirds did attempt to do an airshow in Quincy in the 1980’s. It was abbreviated thanks to a huge thunderstorm that developed just as they started the airshow which forced them to cancel and fly to Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois.

Never was I so mad at Mother Nature than that day.  Anyone else remember that?
