The practice of giving allowance to children seems to be going away.  That could be good or it could be bad.

When I was a kid, I don't recall getting allowance. My brother and I would make our own money early in life by shoveling driveways and sidewalks in the neighborhood.  I even had a delivery route each week delivering of all things one of the most popular magazines then...TV Guide. Oh, I had maybe 15 people on my route, but I learned quickly that I could make my "allowance" by earning it. Today, it seems like kids just ask for it and Mom and Dad dish it out no questions asked.  I am not sure too many youngster get allowance these days.  Maybe I am wrong.

For those who do get allowance, I was reading in the latest Time Magazine that only 1% of American children actually save any of it. And in case you were wondering the average annual allowance is $780 or $65 a month or $15 a week.

Do you give your children allowance? If so how much?
