Auburn, Massachusetts Police Officer Ronald Tarentino was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop at approximately 12:30 am on Sunday, May 22nd. Did you hear much about it?

Sixty-six people were killed in Chicago in May with six of those dying over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  That brings the total killed in Chicago through 5 months of this year to 243 people. According to the Chicago Tribune, 1500 people have been shot in Chicago through the first five months of the year with 400 of them occurring in May. Did you hear much about it?

An unidentified boy at the Cincinnati Zoo was not seriously injured after an encounter with a gorilla. After 10 harrowing minutes, zoo personnel shot and killed the animal, an endangered western lowland gorilla. The Cincinnati Zoo has been getting criticized for their actions and….Oh, well, there’s no need for me to expound on this story since we all have heard about it?

Let’s see? A gorilla gets killed to save a child and the media is all over it. A cop gets slaughtered in Massachusetts at a car stop and we hear next to nothing about that. And then there is Chicago. An average of 300 people are being shot and almost 50 people are being killed a month in Chicago this year. Where is the uproar? Where is the news coverage?

Perhaps it lies in the videos or lack of said videos that determines if it is newsworthy. We all got to see the gorilla video but no such video has surfaced of officer Tarentino’s shooting in Massachusetts or of one of the Chicago shootings.

Do we have to see these events in order to get people interested in correcting them?  Apparently so. They have always said that “seeing is believing” and I am beginning to believe them.  That’s the way I see it!
