The most ideal conditions for building a snowman are when temperatures are right around freezing. This year, it's been much, much colder than that. Not only is it hard to build a snowman when temperatures are extremely low, it's dangerous to be outside too long. Because temperatures have been so severely low, the deadline to enter Hannibal's snowman contest has been moved up to March 17.

Hannibal Parks & Recreation

The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department is asking Hannibal residents that build snowmen in their own yards, or in one of the city's parks, to snap a picture of their snowman and enter it in the contest. Prizes will be awarded for Biggest, Most Hannibal Spirit and Best Superhero. Prizes have been donated by JuJu Cup, Java Jive and Golden Ruler.

According to Hannibal Parks and Rec, "All photographs of snowmen must be entered by March 17. All entries should consist of a photograph of the snowman and must have at least one of the builders in the photo for scale."

To enter the snowman contest, email your pictures to mlrichards@hannibal-mo.gov.

Winners will be judged by the Hannibal mayor and Park Board members. The contest is only for snowmen built in Hannibal.
