Culver-Stockton’s online MBA program is unique to the area due to the three specialized degree tracks offered. Along with a specialization in management, C-SC is also offering a specialization in accounting & finance and a dual-track, double degree Master of Business Administration/Master of Science in Nursing (MBA/MSN) offered in partnership with Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing.

“One of the primary reasons we chose to launch an MBA was in response to accounting graduates interested in fulfilling the 150-hour requirement for the CPA” stated Dr. Dell Ann Janney, chair of the MBA Program and associate dean of experiential education. The MBA with an accounting & finance specialization provides the accounting major undergraduate with better preparation and the additional hours required to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination. “It can also be very financially rewarding. Research shows that a CPA can earn nearly $1 million more than a non-certified accountant over a lifetime,” stated Janney. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of accountants and auditors is anticipated to grow faster than all occupations tracked by the Bureau. The BLS identifies the best prospects are for those “who have a college degree and professional certification, especially a CPA.”

Earning an advanced degree is an important safeguard against a tough economy. “The job market demand continues to be strong for MBA graduates in general. The Corporate Recruiters Survey found that 70 percent of recruiters are looking for prospective employees possessing an MBA. The C-SC online MBA Program provides both affordability and flexibility in pursuing an MBA,” says Janney. The MBA with a Management specialization is designed to provide a comprehensive program for business leaders. The dual MBA/MSN is the only program of this type in the area for health care administrators.

Class sizes in this new program will be small to allow for personalized attention from C-SC’s highly-credentialed professors, and a limited number of openings in the MBA Program will be available. There has already been much anticipation for this program and C-SC alumna, Caly Cramsey, plans to enroll. “I am excited to have the opportunity to pursue my MBA online at C-SC while continuing to work full-time. I know the program will offer me a challenging curriculum combined with the convenience and flexibility of an online program,” said Cramsey.

The C-SC MBA program begins fall 2013. All courses will be offered completely online, with five 8-week sessions starting in the fall and continuing year-round through the summer. A business degree is not mandatory for acceptance in the program, though there are some undergraduate prerequisites necessary for admission. Students are able to complete these required courses online through the Culver-Stockton College Connected Campus Program. The MBA program has a $30 online application fee, but the fee will be waived for any applications received by Thursday, February 14, 2013.
