In keeping with the tradition of championship teams visiting the White House, the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs visited President Obama (a fellow Chicagoan) on Monday.

Usually absent from such ceremonies, First Lady Michelle Obama made an appearance to congratulate her favorite team.

According to GM Theo Epstein, this was the first Cubs visit to the White House since the 1888 team visited President Grover Cleveland and demanded a proclamation claiming the then Chicago White Stockings as the greatest baseball team in the country (a demand that was not granted).

A lifelong White Sox fan, the President assured the North-siders that “Among [Chicago White] Sox fans, I am the Cubs number one fan.”
