There are abused and neglected children in the Pike County court system waiting for a CASA volunteer. CASA of Pike County, a program of Advocacy Network for Children, is recruiting its next group of volunteers for its upcoming training. Two informational meetings will be held on Wednesday, February 2th, at 12:15 and 5:15 p.m. at the Pike County CASA office located in the Pittsfield United Methodist Church, 222 North Monroe Street in Pittsfield.

Meals on Wheels is holding a Cook’s Night Off event on the third Thursday of the month throughout 2019. It’s a fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels program as they offer eat-in, carry-out, or drive thru meals for just $7 each. All meals include either Fried Chicken or Roast Beef, two side dishes, bread and dessert. The hours for each 3rd Thursday of each month are 4 to 6pm at the Senior Center at 639 York Street.

Holy Family School’s 18th Annual Dinner Auction will be held on Saturday, February 23 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal. The theme is “Beach Blast”. It’s a night of food, fun and fellowship! Tickets are now on sale! If you cannot attend but would like to make a donation they are still accepting donations! On Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 a celebration marking the 90th anniversary of the birth of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will take place at Scott’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Hannibal. “The Making of a Prophet”, is the name of the MLK program, will provide an opportunity for both young and old to reflect upon the ways that God prepared Martin Luther King, Jr. for the role he was to play. The celebration will take place from 2 to 4 pm and everyone is welcomed to attend this event which was postponed in January because of the weather.

Advocacy Network for Children will hold its annual fundraising event on March 1, 2019 at The Ambiance in Quincy. The event begins at 6 with a “March Madness” theme. There will be a live and silent auction, games and more. The dollars raised will help the Advocacy Network for Children provide advocacy for abused and neglected children in nine counties in West Central Illinois. Tickets are available at $50 per person or a table of eight for $400.00. If you are interested in attending, please call the Advocacy Network for Children office at 217-223-2272. Tickets are required in advance of the dinner.

Applebees in Quincy at 38th and Broadway will be the site for the Maribeth Wagner TRIO SSS Book Fund at JWCC pancake fund-raiser. The event will run from 8 to 10 am on Saturday, April 6th. This fund was set up to serve low income, first generation and/or disabled students with the loaning of text books for a whole semester. This fundraiser will help with keeping up-to-date editions available to loan out.
