After a cool but nice weekend, the last weekend of summer shapes up to be dryer and warmer.

The National Weather Service calls for a chance of rain for northeast Missouri and western Illinois throughout the day Monday. After that, the rest of the work week should feature lots of sunshine. The extended forecast calls for a chance of rain Saturday through Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to warm up beginning at midweek. We will start in the upper 60s, with highs flirting with 80 degrees by the weekend. Nighttime lows drop to the mid-40s Monday, but will rise to the low 60s by Friday.

By the way, autumn officially arrives at 9:29 p.m. Monday, September 22.
