Repair work on the Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana is delayed a week.

MODOT now says the aging structure will close at 6 a.m. October 13 and reopen October 17. A delay in getting materials for the expansion joint and concrete repairs led to the decision. The work originally was scheduled for October 6 to 10.

The new dates mean the bridge work will push up against the annual Louisiana Colorfest celebration, which is October 18 and 19. State engineers say the outdated structure is safe, but recently enacted indefinite weight limits of 80,000 pounds or less after an inspection showed structural deficiencies.

Replacement of the 86-year-old span is high on Missouri’s transportation priority list. Despite not having the 40 million to 60 million for the project, pre-construction work continues and a final site selection is expected next year.
