The World Series Shook 27 Years Ago Today

I remember it vividly.  Al Michaels and Tim McCarver were broadcasting Game Three of the 1989 World Series between the Oakland A's and the San Francisco Giants when all of a sudden the TV went black and all you could hear was Michaels talking.  The audio quality went from clear to phone-like and after a few seconds he began to realize that an earthquake had just occurred.

Sunday marked the 62nd Anniversary of the Tonight Show on NBC. The show premiered in 1954 with comedian Steve Allen as the host. He was followed by a series of hosts including Ernie Kovacs, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and now Jimmy Fallon. Carson held the position for 30 years from 1962 to 1992.  Believe it or not, I actually have played a very minor role in the show’s success under Jay Leno.
