A couple days ago, I was in the store and noticed that Halloween stuff was already starting to go on display. One of my favorite things at Halloween time is watching all of the scary movies the different television networks schedule. I love horror movies, and I've watched with interest over the last few years as some independent filmmakers have chosen to come to our area and shoot their projects. Here are three horror films with local ties.
Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing’s 26th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic will be held on Sunday, October 5, from noon to 4 p.m. Children, their favorite Teddy bear,doll or stuffed animal, parents and grandparents are all invited to attend.
The 9th Annual Friends of the Trails Bicycle FUN'd Ride will be held September 20, 2014 at All America Park. The event will have four different distances for cyclists. The event will feature a 15, 33, 63, and 100-mile route for participants to choose from.
It seems like I just sat down to enjoy the first performance of Blues in the District and here it is the last concert of the season tonight already. Where does the time go. They say time flies when you are having fun so I guess I shouldn't be surprised the final concert is upon us.
As you drive by the Quincy City Hall on Maine Street today, make a special attempt to look at the rusted out and bent television tower that is located in the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Plaza. That rusted out tower sat atop Building #1 of the World Trade Center in New York 13 years ago this morning. It ended up in the rubble of the two towers that collapsed later that morning as a result of the attack on the buildings in 2001.
Most of us get up in the morning, have our breakfast and head off to work. Then leave work and head home for dinner. For many people that is not the case, and the food pantries in the area will prove that to be true. The demand for food from people in this area continues to climb and the pantries are struggling to keep up with that demand.
The City of Quincy, through Allied Waste Services, will conduct the annual city wide cleanup on Saturday, September 27. The hours of operation will be slightly different than in previous years. This year the hours of operation will be from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
It is not everyday that people you know appear on a national television show, but there they were on the Today Show Sunday morning. Part of the John Schmitt family from Quincy and Ursa just happened to go to the Today Show and be in the crowd for the Sunday broadcast seen on NBC Television nationwide and locally on WGEM-TV.
