Advocacy Network for Children will be wrapping presents at the Quincy Mall the week of December 8 through the 14. The dollars raised through this event will help with day-to-day operating costs of Advocacy Network for Children which provides advocacy for abused and neglected children in nine of the counties in West Central Illinois.
The Annual Avenue of Lights opens Thanksgiving night with over 100 lighted displays in Moorman and Wavering Parks in Quincy. This year’s Avenue of Lights is the biggest, brightest and most animated yet with more than 350 separate pieces and over 15 miles of lights!
Shottenkirk Chevrolet & Shottenkirk Kia of Quincy has announced that the Bikes for Tikes Campaign will return for its 3rd year this December. In the course of the first two years, over 350 bicycles were repaired and recycled, and then distributed to area families in need through the Salvation Army’s Toy Town campaign.
The Salvation Army began taking applications in Quincy for Christmas Food Baskets and Toy Town on Monday of this week. The last chance to apply will be this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Worship Theater of the Kroc Center.
A short and simple bit of general news was mixed in with dozens of other announcements in the Quincy Daily Journal on Dec. 14, 1899: "The children of the parochial school of St. Francis church are practicing for a play to be given the day after Christmas." Sadly, that play never happened.
