The 2014 Veteran's Day Parade will be held in Quincy on Saturday, November 8. That date was confirmed by the parade committee as well as the revelation of this year's Grand Marshall who will be Richard Pace of Canton, Missouri.
The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce has released the 2014 Dogwood Festival schedule and it includes the Y101 Block Parties, a parade, dance, activities in Washington Park, and more. This year’s theme is “Top of the List”
The 28th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is in the books. Many thanks to everyone for being in the parade and coming down to watch it as we finally "Ushered in Spring". With over 100 entries, this year's parade was the biggest ever surpassing the previous record of 94 entries.
It was a morning in 1986 when I was working at 99Q Radio with Dennis Oliver. He was just finishing up his morning show and I was beginning my mid-day stint (after working the morning show on WTAD earlier that morning). It was about a week before St. Patrick’s Day and I went up to D.O. and said we need to have a St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Quincy.
Thanks to everyone who has entered the 28th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade! The entries listed below are officially in the parade. Remember you must have something green on you or your entry (Balloons, ribbons, etc.). The parade is March 15 at 11 a.m. sharp and we go from 12th to 5th on Maine Street in Quincy.
So here we are some 17 days away from making our 28th stroll down Maine Street as part of the St. Patrick's Parade. As of this writing we have 31 entries and most likely will be around 90 again like last year. One of the things we always are in need of is Irish music in the parade.
I know it isn't even Valentine's Day yet, but I must think now about the St. Patrick's Parade set for March 15 this year in Quincy. It will be the 28th year for the parade and over the years I have tried to come up with different things to wear. I even wore a kilt one year and took so much flack over it that I decided to show them and wear it a second consecutive year. The question always comes up though, "Are you going to wear a kilt again this year?"
It was back in 2008 when Dick McKinney asked me if I would come to a meeting to help revive the Veteran's Day Parade in Quincy. It had been some 35 years since Quincy held a Veteran's Day Parade and Dick was hoping I would be able to share some contacts and information from the St. Patrick's Parade with him. I was more than happy to assist.
It is hard to believe but this Saturday the 6th Annual Veteran's Parade will be held in Quincy with nearly 80 entries ready to go down Maine Street beginning at 10am. I remember meeting with the parade chairmen Jim Ponsot and Dick McKinney five years ago to discuss putting on the first parade. We had no idea how many entries we would have but to see it nearing 80 this year is fabulous.
