‘Firefighters for a Cause’ T-Shirts Are on Sale Now

The 2014 "Firefighters for a Cause" T-Shirts are now available at the Central Fire Station in Quincy at 906 Vermont. This dark grey t-shirt, designed by firefighter Mike Dade, features a full black logo with the breast cancer ribbon dressed as a firefighter performing an automobile extrication. The proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go to the Blessing Cancer Center's Financial Assistance Program.

A couple of six foot tall stuffed bears will make their first appearance at the Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing’s 26th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic on Sunday, October 5, from Noon to 4 p.m. The Clinic will be held in the Auditorium of Blessing Hospital at 11th Street in Quincy (Hospital main entrance).The new bears are named Flo and Dorsey Brown Bear.

The year was 1908 and the New York Giants and the Chicago Cubs were playing the final game of the season. The Cubs and the Giants were both tied for the National League Championship and this game would determine the National League winner. With the score tied at 1 to 1, New York was batting in the bottom of the ninth with two men on base and with two men out. The New York batter singled to centerfield to apparently win the game and the pennant for the Giants. What happened next was chaos.
