The NCAA men’s basketball tournament field of 68 was announced on Sunday evening, meaning everyone at your office is working harder on their brackets than their real jobs today.

ESPN revealed their top ten plays of the month and Quincy University came in at number ten. The highlight is from the Quincy University-Drury University game played January 31 in Springfield, Missouri. It was a finish some are calling the best finish to a college basketball game this season.

The Elks Club of Quincy and the Elks National Foundation will be holding their annual local Elk’s Hoop Shoot contest for boys and girls in the area ages 8 to 13.  There will be three different age brackets…8 and 9, 10 and 11 and 12 and 13.

The Harlem Wizards are returning to Baldwin Gym in Quincy to play the area teachers this Saturday, December 6 at 6 p.m. The evening promises to be a fun filled event for both kids and adults.

It is hard to believe but the high school basketball season is not that far off. With that in mind, tickets are now on sale for the 44th Annual Quincy High Thanksgiving Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The Gus Macker Basketball Tournament has extended the signup date until Monday, May 12. Only online signups will be accepted through next Monday.

With schools in the area about to break for the summer many parents of youngsters will be needing to find activities for their children. May I suggest one such activity? If your child loves to play basketball, Coach Andy Schmitt, a Quincy native, will be holding individual, as well as group lessons, specific to the current basketball skill level and age of your son or daughter.

The year was 1974. The city was Lowell, Michigan. The location was Scott McNeal's driveway. The participants were 17 of his friends. Combine all that and you had the start of Gus Macker, but how did it get to Quincy?

The Quincy Exchange Club is actively addressing a major concern about the Gus Macker 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament which is set for May 24 and 25. That concern is the officiating that has taken place over the years, which has led to some "rough" play on the courts. That major concern was addressed and the Exchange Club has done away with volunteer court officials called "Gus Busters.

The employment of Sean Taylor as head basketball coach of the Quincy Senior High Blue Devils came to an end this morning. The Quincy School Board voted to remove him, according to Quincy Herald-Whig. School Board President Stephanie Erwin made the announcement after the board voted 6 to nothing to remove Taylor from his basketball position.
