The Batting Cage Opens April 3 and The Big Dog is Ready

With the advent of the 2015 baseball season upon us, the batting cage bug has hit me. The bug to go to the batting cage and smash some baseballs around is attacking me like I would a fastball. The bad news is that the Quincy Park District’s Batting Cage is closed. The good news is that it will open for the season on Friday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m. That's 15 days from today. Baseball Has Made ‘Cracker Jack’ a Household Name

The song came out in 1908 and it is played at almost every baseball game played in America including the Hannibal Cavemen and the Quincy Gems games. It’s the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” song and that song has single handedly sent the sales of Cracker Jack through the roof. In the song there is a line that says “Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack.”

As a huge baseball fan, I find myself watching Ken Burns' Baseball series with keen interest on the Major League Baseball Network. The MLB Network has been airing segments of the series in recent days and I just can't pull myself away from the TV. Such was the case Sunday when I heard John Chancellor, the narrator of the program, mention how baseball in the years of 1910 to 1920 was blossoming and he went on to mention towns and their team names that were popular including the "Quincy Crybabies."
