I have purposely waited for a week to make any comment about the major news item that came to light last week. The suspension of Brian Williams. Now here is a guy who makes 10-million dollars a year that had to lie about what he saw and did in a war zone. Why would someone in his position do that? Money, that's why!

You see, if you sensationalize the news like being shot at in a war zone, your ratings go up. When your ratings go up, the network (in this case NBC) can charge more for commercials and they make more money. And guess what? Brian Williams looks huge and probably gets a bonus out of it.

With the extra money the network makes, they then can pay the cameraman who was with Williams to keep his mouth shut. That's right, we never heard a word out of him when Williams was boasting of his war zone theatrics. So when you get right down to it, it probably was money that made Williams do it. Is he the only news reporter to ever embellish a news story? I doubt it. It maybe news, but it is also TV.

Do I think Williams is a bad guy? No I don't, and I feel badly for him that his career has hit a stone wall. So will he get his anchor seat back? I have been asked that quite a bit this past week and I would say no.

A TV anchorman is held to a higher standard than most people and once you lose your credibility you have lost about everything. But Williams is the face of NBC and the integrity of NBC news took a huge hit. I don't suspect his face will ever be on the network again. He's been suspended without pay ($5 million) for 6 months. This story will eventually subside but if he comes back in six months it will all be resurrected again and I don't think NBC would want that.
