Baseball Season Opens in Quincy

Opening night at QU Stadium was nearly as perfect as it gets. Skies were clear and the temperature was mild. A huge crowd turned out to see the season opener between the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen. Even the visitor's section was full, as Hannibal fans traveled from across the river for the game. Pregame activities included the unveiling of the Gems' 2011 Prospect League Championship Trophy.

Hannibal got out to an early lead, and Quincy never got anything going offensively. At the end of the night, the Cavemen came away with a victory over the Gems, 6 - 0.

Quincy will again host Hannibal at QU Stadium, tonight at 6:30. It will be Y101 night, which means we've got free t-shirts to give away. There will also be a special for the first 200 kids, 12 and under, who will receive a free bat, courtesy of the Quincy Gems.
