You ever wonder what all of those letters we use to define certain things (usually technological gizmos, government agencies, and fried chicken chains that want to downplay the "fried" aspect of their menu) actually mean? I was shopping earlier today and realized that I had no idea what USB stood for. I was pretty sure the U was for "universal," but was lost after that first letter. Then I started thinking about other acronyms that I wasn't sure about, and decided to start researching. How many of these did you know?
The famous (or infamous) annual list of the best "party schools" in America is out. Western Illinois University in Macomb and The University of Missouri in Columbia are among the top 100 colleges known to have a good time.
Movoto has compiled an interesting new interactive map which lists the wealthiest Americans by state. Interestingly, I had never heard of most of these people, and was a little surprised to see the local results for Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.
Earlier in the summer, a number of artists who conquered the charts during the 90s made a stop in Springfield on the Under the Sun Tour. On August 27, several huge acts from the 80s will appear in Chicago.
I'm not sure how much of this to believe. A newly released Harris Poll attempts to get to the bottom of Americans' lying habits. The trouble with such a poll, of course, is that those surveyed are admitted liars. And the those that don't admit to it could be lying. So keep all of that in mind as you go through these statistics.
NBC's 'America's Got Talent' has announced the top acts of the current season. 48 acts will compete for the $1 million grand-prize beginning on Tuesday, June 29. 47 of those performers have been announced. The 48th, chosen by viewers of 'Today,' will be announced on June 30 during the 'America's Got Talent' results show. Among this season's top acts are performers from Illinois, Missouri and Iowa.
I was searching for videos about Hannibal on YouTube, and came across something that I thought was pretty interesting. This video, called 'USA Hannibal MO 1981' shows a good bit of Hannibal from over 30 years ago.
There's plenty to like about St. Louis. I've been there many times for all sorts of things. I've seen the Cardinals in the playoffs, I've watched the Blues at the Keil Center, Savvis Center and Scottrade Center (which are all the same building, it's just been renamed a few times), I attended a movie premiere at the Tivoli, and rode that weird elevator thing to the top of the Gateway Arch. I wasn't really surprised to see that St. Louis has been named one of the 10 "Best Cities For Recreation."
