My radio career began at KIEE-FM in Harrisonville, Missouri which later became KCFX in Kansas City. I worked there for 4 years before landing a position at WTAD and KHQA-TV here in Quincy doing a radio show and play-by-play sports. After doing TV Sports for KHQA, I worked for both WTAD and WQCY-FM (99Q). I moved over to WGEM as Operations Manager and then returned to WTAD as General Manager. In 2001 I joined Y101. I have been fortunate enough to win 6 Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcasters Association , including 5 for best Play-By-Play and one for Best Radio Show Entertainer. My favorite music is the Blues. The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Chiefs are my favorite teams. I played baseball for 24 years and my claim to fame is a double off of Rick Sutcliffe when we both played in Kansas City.

Did You Know That Corned Beef and Cabbage is Not an Irish Meal?

It is funny how Americans consume certain foods with certain holidays. Like turkey on Thanksgiving Day and corned beef on St. Patrick’s Day. Both could be eaten anytime of the year, but we seem to usually devour it on the appropriate holiday instead. Of course the turkey is an All-American bird and it fits the holiday in November. But, in what may surprise many, corned beef and cabbage is not the main staple in Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day.

What Should the Big Dog Wear in The St. Patrick’s Parade? [Poll]

The St. Patrick's Parade set for a week from tomorrow (March 14) in Quincy. It will be the 29th year for the parade and over the years I have tried to come up with different things to wear. I even wore a kilt one year and took so much flack over it that I decided to show them and wear it a second consecutive year. The question always comes up though, "Are you going to wear a kilt again this year?"

As the song says "They say lights are brighter on Broadway."  Well, several lights have gone from bright, to dimmer, to off, as six businesses on Broadway have closed their doors between 30th and 38th streets. In the last two years, that eight-block area of Quincy has lost Deb Shops, J.C. Penney, Radio Shack, Long John Silver's, TGI Fridays, and now Steak 'n Shake.
