Jeffrey Dorsey

My radio career began at KIEE-FM in Harrisonville, Missouri which later became KCFX in Kansas City. I worked there for 4 years before landing a position at WTAD and KHQA-TV here in Quincy doing a radio show and play-by-play sports. After doing TV Sports for KHQA, I worked for both WTAD and WQCY-FM (99Q). I joined WGEM as Operations Manager and then returned to WTAD as General Manager. In 2001 I joined Y101. I have been fortunate enough to win 6 Silver Dome Awards from the Illinois Broadcasters Association, including 5 for best Play-By-Play and one for Best Radio Show Entertainer. My favorite music is the Blues. The New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and St. Louis Blues are my favorite teams. I played baseball for 24 years and my claim to fame is a double off of Rick Sutcliffe when we both played in Kansas City. Forty-two years later, I am still doing what I love.

Thanks Gems & Cavemen for Keeping Baseball Alive!

So the local baseball regular season for the Quincy Gems and the Hannibal Cavemen has wound down.  For those who went to see the teams play this season, you undoubtedly had an enjoyable time and isn’t that what you want when you spend your money….. to be entertained?  Oh, maybe the Gems and the Cavemen didn’t win as many games as you may have wanted them to, but the fact is it is a wonderful place to take your family for an economical price.

Instant Arts Classroom Funds Need Your Help

Arts Quincy is asking community support to grow their Instant Arts Classroom Funds. Since 1996, Arts Quincy has granted over $200,000 to teachers in Adams County, and last year alone, these funds allowed around 7,500 students to take part in one of 110 arts experiences. These grants helped teachers to bring an art or music teacher into their classroom, take their class to see a theatrical performance live, try a dance class, check out a museum or take part in other arts activities. This year the program will expand to help cover transportation and supplies.

Ever Wonder How the Amtrak Train Turns Around in West Quincy? Here’s Your Answer

Each and every day there are two Amtrak trains that serve the Quincy area with trips to and from Chicago. The Illinois Zephyr leaves Quincy at 6:12 mornings and returns each night at 10:23. The Carl Sandburg departs Quincy each night at 5:30 and arrives in Chicago at 9:58. That train then returns the next morning at 7:35 from Chicago and arrives in Quincy at 12:03 p.m. With both train routes ending in West Quincy, I always wondered how the train actually turns around in West Quincy to prepare for the trip back to Chicago.

Quincy’s ‘Teenager’, Chuck Yates Would Have Been 68 Today

An icon in local radio, Chuck Yates, would have been 68 years old today. It sounds strange to say that since he was always considered a “teenager” by all who knew him.  Chuck passed away on December 19, 2013. One can only wonder what would have gone on during his morning radio show today if he were still with us. I guarantee it would have been fun because that is what Chuck was all about.
